Contact me for a professional written critique
of non-rhyming picture books, 1000 words or less (of any genre)
$55.00
(Additional fee for longer picture book manuscripts.)
The written critique includes paragraphs of big-picture helpful information about whichever areas of your manuscript I feel need the most work.
Second critique for the same manuscript is $44.00. Please wait at least 2-4 weeks before re-submitting a revised version of the same manuscript. Please take time to fully consider and reflect upon the first written critique (for this manuscript). Share the new version with your (SCBWI, 12x12, or other) critique group.
Of course, I am happy to critique other manuscripts in the meantime.
Thank you for the opportunity to critique your work! I truly wish all kidlit writers the best in your writing journeys!
Join the Society of Children’s Book Writer’s and Illustrators, SCBWI. They are a wonderful organization and have many resources. https://www.scbwi.org/
There are many SCBWI state, regional, and international chapters. Many hold events, including conferences, meetings, and workshops.
Connect with the critique group organizer and see if there is a critique group that is a good fit for you.
I’m a member of SCBWI and the Author’s Guild.
Here’s excellent advice from three wonderful children’s book author/illustrators on getting started:
‘You Wrote a Book! Yay! Now What?’ by Fred Koehler: https://www.ilikefred.com/post/you-wrote-a-book-yay-now-what?fbclid=IwAR1LwO8HgGzvTzqSZob7usPUYdeQMGsWiN4Lc8WG0gUbCqTNpsE-jIpFfhg

There’s a wealth of information on the internet about children’s books. Most children’s book authors have websites. Many members of the community are active on Twitter and other social media sites. There are excellent writing teachers and virtual workshops. There are many free writing contests.
Beware of any publishers or agents that ask you to pay a fee to submit your work for consideration.
The most important thing is to keep working on your craft to create the best books possible for young readers.
All the best with your writing and illustrating endeavors!
